The Buck Ram Platters
The Buck Ram Platters 2004:
We are thrilled to introduce to you the new line up for The Platters. While the
combination of voices is new, the music is still as sweet and the five-part harmony
will live up to even the toughest critics.  We will never claim to be the originals,
there is only one moment in time saved for them.  Our mission is to honor those
before us and create the music Buck Ram would be proud of.
Tyrone Sweet-Always charming and quick to smile, Ty is not only our musical director/road
manager, he sings too! His rich baritone voice melts the hearts of many a lady in our audiences,
young and old alike, his name definitely suits him. Ty is doing a magnificent job pulling the music
together in the manner Buck Ram demanded with rich, full accompaniments and even some original
arrangements.  A man wearing many hats, he is accomplished on both the saxophone and piano, and
headed his own jazz trio opening for both Nancy Wilson and Marlena Shaw.
Herb Rawlings-Herb may be the oldest in the group but you sure can’t tell from his moves. In
fact, he can probably run circles around the rest of the line up! Herb's performing debut at the age of
2, was for Jackie Wilson and Barry Gordy. Broadway bound, he played in Dream Girls for several
years and has performed off and on with us for many occasions in the past. He has agreed to be our
permanent tenor and we could not be happier. His voice is reminiscent of Tony Williams but with
Herb’s own energetic flare.
"Even if there were only two people in the audience, I'd jump out there and give them all I've got."
"Entertaining is in my Blood."                                                              ------Herb Rawlings
Darrell Scott- Darrell was with the group several years ago but had to leave because of family
obligations. We missed him and are blessed to have him back Classically trained, Darrell studied
voice at Winters School of Music in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He received a bachelors degree in
music education at Alcorn State University and has taught voice in his hometown, Las Vegas, Nv.
His beautiful rendition of EBB Tide will bring tears to your eyes, we know, we have seen it first
hand.
Paris Red-Paris is our dazzling new dish! She comes to us from a solo career that spans
everything from a Sony contract to opening for the infamous R Kelly. Paris has toured with
Blackstreet and Jeffrey Osborne. She has recorded with Patti Labelle, Natalie Cole, Bobby Brown,
and Placido Domingo.  Paris grew up in a music-oriented family.  Her mother is a classically trained
pianist and her father is a jazz musician and singer. She developed a passion for music at a very
young age.
John Haynes-John has been our bass player for several years. When Ty encouraged him to help
with vocals, we discovered a diamond in the rough. His range rivals that of the incredible Gene
Williams, who was our bass for 18 years, and his comic style is a sight to behold. This guy is always
on; we never know what to expect from “The Ham” in our group. Jean Bennett has compared him to
Herb Reeds flare for comedy throughout the original Platters early years.  John has played bass since
the age of 10.

                                                                                                                                            Always, the sideman,
he has performed with the group since 1995 and was handpicked by our own Jean Bennett who saw something
special in the tall, quiet, and very attractive Denver, Co native. She gave him his singing debut and we have not been
able to slow him down since. And if that is not enough, he is also an artist/painter. Maybe we can get him to display
some of his artwork on the website!!!! Fans keep asking!
In fact, when Herb sings My Prayer, if you close your eyes and think
back to a kinder, gentler era, you might find yourself lost in the 50’s and hearing Tony all over again. Don’t let that fool
you though, he can morph into James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr, or many of several personalities within one
performance.  Where does he get the energy?
Darrell has appeared as Porgy in productions of “Porgy & Bess”, Mozart’s “Marriage of
Figaro”, and Handel’s “Messiah”. He sings in three languages-French, Italian, and German. And for the record, the
boy can cook. This southern gentleman was taught by the best, “the men in his family”. Lookout all you seafood
lovers, you have not lived until you have sampled Darrell’s stuffed crab! Yum!
Growing up with some of the best Gospel, R&B, classical and jazz performers have
greatly influenced her own musical career. We have found someone special with this multi-talented
young lady. She brings poise and elegance to the group and is definitely easy on the eyes. It is not easy being the
only woman surrounded by all those men but she can hold her own.
He landed two major recording contracts with his own band, and has recorded and
performed with James Ingram, Al Green and Rose Royce. We are so happy to have a true bass singer in the line-up
again. There is nothing like the five part harmony that was put together by Buck Ram in 1953.
